Freckles!
For some people, freckles are a very touchy and embarrassing subject. While some people spot freckles in early childhood, others may notice that they develop more of these skin spots over the years. Here are some of the things that you should know about how you get freckles and the steps which can help to prevent them.
Causes of Freckles
Genetics are one of the most common causes of freckles. Some people are born with a certain gene that causes freckles. These people will generally notice the skin spots during their childhood or teenage years. Most people with this gene have fair complexions and a reddish hair color. When the cause of freckles is genetic, they cannot be prevented.
Exposure to UV rays from the sun or tanning beds can also cause an increase in freckles. For people who already have freckles, UV rays may cause more of these skin spots. Some people may only ever notice freckles after they have spent hours sunbathing. People who have fair complexions and have difficulty tanning are at the greatest risk of developing freckles due to UV ray exposure. The good news is that it is possible to prevent freckles caused by the sun or tanning beds.
Preventing Freckles
The best way to not get freckles due to UV ray exposure is to avoid spending time in the sun without protection. Everyone who spends time outdoors, at any time of the year, should use a sunscreen with at least 15 SPF to reduce the risk of skin cancer. People with fair complexions should opt for a sun block with a higher SPF, such as Banana Boat Sport Sunblock Lotion, SPF 50, $9.76, at Amazon.com.
If you're a sun goddess and don't want to give up tanning, consider other options. Many salons offer spray tans, which are ideal if you want a sun-kissed glow for an upcoming event. There are also many self-tanning lotions on the market to choose from, such as Dove Energy Glow Shimmering Lotion for All Skin Tones, $5.49, at Amazon.com. These products are another ideal option for sunless tanning.
Any time you get freckles, it's ideal to visit a dermatologist. Although these spots are often harmless, any change in the skin can indicate skin cancer or pre-cancer. Since early detection plays a key role in treating skin cancer, it's important to always pay
attention to your skin. Finally, remember that freckles are no reason to be ashamed. Some of the most beautiful celebrities, such as Megan Fox and Alexis Bledel, have freckles.
Remember to be yourself and love it!!! xoxo Carly/FamousWolf
